Beatriz studied psychology and never lost the habit of reading for pleasure. She cares for fiction, poetry, and the children’s corner, and hosts many of the club evenings.

For nearly five decades the shop has been a generalist independent bookstore: literature, poetry, arts, and children’s books at the centre, with room for the smaller Portuguese and European presses that rarely reach chain tables.
When Beatriz and Nuno took on the next chapter, the task was not reinvention for its own sake — it was to keep the proximity, the curation, and the sense that a bookshop is a cultural room as much as a retail floor.
